Go to Spots for Natural Wine in Manhattan and Brooklyn
Personally, I do love to indulge in a great glass of wine — as well as picking out a bottle to share with friends. Whether I am shopping at the store or going to a wine bar, it’s crucial for me to find a type of wine that is natural or eco-friendly. Those points have led me to try lots of different wines and have come up with a few places to score a great bottle of vino in the city.
Before we dive in I wanted to give a little background on natural wine. Natural/sustainable wine aims to have a winemaking process that protects the environment, supports social responsibility, maintains economic feasibility, and produces high-quality wines. It considers the entire vineyard ecosystem, including the soil, water, air, and biodiversity. It is often made in smaller batches and is made with organic grapes, which means no pesticides or herbicides are used in the vineyard.
Spes Natural Wine & Restaurant
Spes is a natural wine bar located in the East Village and has the cutest vibe. The owner is from Verona, Italy and she has an insane knowledge about all of her wines. I recently went back there and enjoyed some delicious orange wine and chatted with the amazing team members there, definitely recommend it if you want to expand your wine palette. Cherry On Top
Cherry on Top is a great spot if you are looking for a crisp glass of natural wine and the option to be indoor/outdoor. They have a great open rooftop and seating inside as well! It is a perfect little oasis to catch up with friends and enjoy good wine and good company in Brooklyn. They host events from tarot readers to movie nights and also bring in rotating chefs, so if you are ever in that area it's worth a try! Instagram: @cherry.on.top.nyc
Temperance Wine Bar
Temperance Wine Bar, has a fun vibe either for going to with your girls or on a date. Their wine list is extensive and the staff always brings you out great options to try from when you are unsure of what you want. They also have great Happy Hour specials Tuesday-Friday—so it's totally worth it if you are strolling in the West Village. Instagram: @temperancenyc
Vino Fine Wine & Spirits
Vino Fine Wine & Spirits is a wine shop that specializes in small producers with an emphasis on the New York region. Felix, who helped me last time I was in the shop was extremely helpful and led me making a great choice for bottle to bring for park picnic dinner. Instagram: @vinofinewineandspirits
Honorary Mention: The Stand
Not a wine bar, but The Stand is a comedy club, located near Union Square. While I was there with friends for a comedy show, I ordered the Pet Nat and it still is one of my favorite glasses of wine I've had in the city as of lately (hence the honorary mention). Instagram: @thestandnyc
Hopefully, you will be able to try out some of these spots and let me know if they are your vibe. In vino veritas!
